R&D Focus
Using proprietary gene knockout technology, Lexicon has systematically discovering the physiological and behavioral functions of almost 5,000 pharmaceutically relevant genes.  Through this initiative, known as the Genome5000™ program, we have identified and validated more than 100 drug targets in vivo, or in living animals, and created a unique, growing clinical pipeline.  All of our drug targets have been identified internally as part of our Genome5000 program.

Therapeutic Areas
Within our five therapeutic areas, we are actively pursuing drug targets for the following diseases: 

• Cardiology:  hypertension, dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis
• Gastroenterology:  irritable bowel syndrome, carcinoid syndrome
• Immunology:  rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease, inflammation, asthma, arthritis, thrombocytopenia, anemia, immune deficiency, multiple sclerosis
• Metabolism:  obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis
• Ophthalmology:  glaucoma, retinal degeneration, dry eye, diabetic retinopathy
