Humanocracy: Unleashing the power of human ingenuity at work
Most large organizations are still bureaucratic at their core — hierarchical, authoritarian, and rule-choked. Until this changes, our organizations will continue to be timid, inertial, and incremental. There is, however, an alternative. In healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and other industries, one can now find a small number of vanguard organizations that are proving it is possible to run large, complex institutions with a minimum of bureaucracy. These management renegades are resilient, empowering, and enjoy substantial productivity advantages. In his presentation, Gary will outline practical strategies for making the jump from bureaucracy to humanocracy, and describe how inspired coaches can play a pivotal role in building organizations that are fit for the future an fit for human beings.
Artificial Intelligence Coaching
This session will take a critical look at what AI is, common misperceptions, what we actually know about using AI in coaching based on empirical research, and the role that AI could play in the future of coaching.
Beyond the Absence of Disease: Communication, Health and Well-being
Despite major advances in the science of positive health and well-being, the dominant discourse in the public arena and in the industry has been to focus on physical and mental health as distinct areas of health promotion and interventions. Yet both are closely inter-related and, an integrated approach to health and well-being is considered more effective. This talk will focus on positive health science, its determinants and the need for translation to influence policy and practice. Coaches can apply the emerging science in coaching conversations and programs now, and help accelerate mindset transformation in healthcare and beyond.

Are coaching dogmas holding us back?
What are the most frequently expressed needs of leaders in their coaching? You might be surprised to hear that it is not what leadership competencies frameworks, or some definitions of coaching suggest. In this fire-side conversation Professor Tatiana Bachkirova of Oxford Brookes University and Angela Passarelli, director of research at the Institute of Coaching, will discuss challenging findings of Tatiana’s latest research project. In questioning other coaching dogmas, they will also touch on ideas which might need to be reconsidered, e.g., one authentic self to discover, one way of seeing the purpose of coaching, one main underpinning science behind our craft and any other that you are interested to include in this conversation.
Vision of Excellence Award & How Do We Know What Our Clients Need From Us?
For 150 years behavior change has been guided by normative categories but for nearly 100 of those years we should have known that was a mistake. In this talk Dr. Hayes will show how a focus on processes of change reveals this fundamental error and how the field is now preparing to correct it using ""idionomic"" methods. Stated simply if we want to know what our clients need from us we need to stop treating human beings as error terms and instead adopt a view that every human voice deserves to be heard. He will show concrete new methods for doing just that.

The Power of Age and Generational Diversity For Coaches
It’s well documented that having a diverse workforce is very critical to an organization’s performance, productivity and profitability. However, there is an area of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) that is often overlooked — but extremely relevant to all professionals and the coaching industry at large. And that is AGE. Also, mentorship is the cornerstone of personal and career growth. From the “experience rich” leader (Boomer/Gen X), to the “emerging professional” (Millennials/Gen Z) — every generation has a quiver of invaluable insights and perspectives that can benefit each other. This is why mutual mentoring between generations should be reinforced and embraced in the workplace. Let’s have a multi-generational conversation about it!
Opening & Ellen Shub Award for Coaching for Social Good
Promoting Racial Equity: Moving from Principle to Practice
Research has revealed a “principle-practice gap,” where individuals and organizations state commitments to racial equity in principle, but fail to take the action necessary to promote meaningful change. When further examining this gap, Dr. Williams has discovered a breakdown in communication and disconnects at the individual and systems level that stifle progress. In this keynote address, she will discuss these evidence-based trends and propose how to leverage these insights to build more effective inclusion strategies.
Beyond Languishing to Flourishing: Physician Well-being and the Role of Coaching
In this keynote session, Dr. Palamara will provide an overview of the physician burnout crisis, the factors that contribute and promote their workplace well-being, and the role of coaching in supporting physician well-being. Dr. Palamara will also share practical strategies to incorporating positive psychology into workplace conversations and data from recent trials on the impact of physician coaching initiatives on well-being and burnout.
Deep Connections: The Secret to Successful Lives, Organizations, and Great Human Achievements
Some of the most successful leaders, boards, organizations, and collaborations have a secret power: their partnerships. It’s not their skills or experiences that matter most, it is their ability to partner--to forge deep connections. Explore the threads that are common to extraordinary partnerships and collaborations. Understand how you can become better coaches and leaders through the relationships you nurture. Spark ideas for how collectives of leaders can collaborate to change organizations for the better. Learn from the experience of one of the greatest collaborators of our time, Dame Graça Machel, as she shares her thoughts on partnering with The Elders (from Nelson Mandela to Jimmy Carter), with the amazing community of female leaders that she works with at The Graça Machel Trust, and her other deep connections.

Join behavioral scientists from BetterUp’s Coaching Science team in a virtual networking session where we will: • share insights on emerging research on the well-being of coaches • facilitate a dialogue and generate ideas on how to support coach well-being in a sustainable way
First, I learned from the latest research on coaching to stay critical towards my own biases as a coach and to notice the dogmas that are holding us back as coaches. Second, I got inspired by top executive Coaches such as Carol Kauffman and David Noble who shared their perspectives on how to help clients grow their leadership. I started using their framework and approach. Third, the latest research on Coaching Effectiveness in Healthcare and within other sectors broadened my awareness of what is really helping clients to cope with mental health issues. Last but not least the latest research and experiments with AI in coaching were refreshing and taught me how to embrace AI and see the opportunities instead of the threats.
The 2023 IOC Virtual Annual Conference was engaging, inspiring and accessible. It was a wonderful way to meet, network with, and hear from coaches and top experts from around the world. I especially enjoyed learning about coaching approaches to treat burnout with questions to guide your client's perspective, ideologies to differentiate illness from wellness and to support well-being in our coaching practices and communities, and perspectives on added uses and points of consideration for the effects of A.I. in our field. The conference was well-organized, with personable and timely facilitation, and included recorded sessions, so I was able to rewatch the presentations and catch the ones I missed later on. From one coach to another, I recommend this conference as a great resource not only for CEU's but also as a way to continue to develop and refine your skills!
